“family time” literally cannot exist if there is a toxic/aggressive man in the house. It just cannot. It’s sad to see mothers try to pull their family together, to stabilize some form of family time when tensions and emotions are already high because of a toxic man.

Like, it just doesn’t exist. If there is a toxic man in the house, and that affects the children and other family members, then that small bit of solace and peace vanishes when he enters the house. The time prior to that is spent with everyone preparing themselves for his arrival and the negative impact it will have on their emotions.

As long as toxic men have a say or authority in your house, then “family time” that is meant to be happy, is literally nonexistent.

And then, there is this awkward tension when a mother picks to please her husband/boy friend over her own children. When she knows he is wrong, and knows that she is in the wrong for defending him, but she tricks herself into believing her children are putting her wedge in the relationship with a toxic man. Especially if it’s her daughters who cannot stand her boyfriend/husband (double if he isn’t their bio dad).
